Welcome to the Joy of Harlem. This is the story of the life of a real Joy living in Harlem. I’m sharing the love even in the struggle. At the moment, there is more struggle than I bargained for when I decided to commit my journey to community space. No matter what is happening, I am blessed to be living this life in this city. Harlem Love!
Community
One thing is true about Harlem, it’s cup runs over with faith. There are more than 400 houses of worship in the Harlem. We are a people of various faiths that live together cooperatively. The religious denominations consist of Baptist, Roman Catholic, Seventh Day Adventist, Black Muslims, Episcopalian, Methodist, and others.
About
I’m Joy Machelle. I moved to Harlem for business school and never left. I had a vision of living in Harlem Townhouse and faith and works together made that dream a reality. I’ve always been very active in my community and now find that I’ve become even more engaged in Harlem as well as in the Long Island Community where I grew up and visit regularly.
My original vision for this blog has transformed. I wanted it to be a place where are shared about Harlem and a place where I could direct my short-term guests for information as I worked to grow this portion of my income. Things have changed.
The city shut me down and is attempting to extract money from me. This blog is now the place where I share of my fight to work with both the city and state government to get the rights of homeowners and tenants to have fair and clear home sharing laws.
This blog will continue to be a celebration even in the middle of this struggle. We will be celebrating victory. I know that I know that I know it will happen.
Please feel free to share and comment.

Hitting The Airwaves
A few days ago…or maybe last week, I created a gofundme page to help me to raise funds to fill in the gap and to pay the fines from the city and to help me keep up the fight. I really didn’t start to market it yet. My excuse has been sad and pitiful. It …
It’s On
I’ve been waffling on how much of this home sharing fight that I should share. I started using Airbnb and VRBO to provide me an income while I figure out how to best grow my business. I wasn’t supposed to be in a fight about housing. It wasn’t supposed to spend more than a year …
